On Saturday 1 July, the Archicapella choir celebrated it’s 25 years anniversary with a summer concert entitled ‘Summertime’.
The programme before the break was ‘The Best of’ a selection of the choir’s repertoire of the past 5 years, with a medley of West Side Story. After the break we performed American swing jazz standards from the past century with songs by George Gerswin, Henri Mancini, Hoagy Carmichael and Duke Ellington.
It involved a lightly staged performance by professional soloists, the young Flemish soprano Judith Sepulchre and Amsterdam-based bas/baritone Yonathan Van Den Brink. Would something beautiful blossom between them, or would things be spoilt by an angry quarrel?
They were accompanied by Luba Podgayskaya on piano and Tim Braithwaite on sax while conductor Sanda Audere was in charge so every bump was surely taken with verve.
Tickets adults €12.50, children up to 12 years €10.00, supplement at the door. Start at 20.00 hours.
